World Science Festival

The Math Factory's "Math Midway" exhibit will make its debut at the 2009 World Science Festival in New York City this June.  The WSF runs from June 11 thrugh June 14 (Thursday through Sunday), and our exhibit will debut at the WSF Street Fair on Sunday June 14.  The street fair will be located in the vicinity of Washington Square Park.

To supervise those projects, the Math Factory Working Group has created a Math Midway Exhibition committee, chaired by Cindy Lawrence.

The Math Midway is well into the fabrication process and is shaping up beautifully.  We are currently seeking venues for the exhibition for any and all dates following the Festival — if you have any suggestions, leads, or contacts for potential exhibition venues, please contact the Math Midway Exhibition chair at lawrence@mathmuseum.net.

To discuss, develop, and assist planning for the Traveling Exhibit and World Science Festival involvement, go to the development page.

Watch here for further information about the planning and implementation process.

Answers to questions about this project:

  • When is the 2009 World Science Festival?
    June 11-14, 2009.

  • What is the mission?
The same as that of the museum. Having an exhibit at the World Science Festival fits perfectly into the museum's overall mission, will receive many visitors, and will increase the exposure of the museum tremendously. Furthermore, the Mathematical Midway will then travel to other museums and venues, spreading our message over a wide geographical area.

  • Where will our exihibits come from?
The Math Factory is designing them in conjunction with Ralph Appelbaum Associates, a well-known museum design firm.  The exhibits will be constructed by two professional fabrication firms.
